ReplyDeleteI'll say just this: on #12, whatever an encyclopedia might tell you, the "winning-in-real-life" approach is to play a small card from A953.
#2 is well known nowadays although quite counter-intuitive.
ReplyDeleteCombinations like #3 are very interesting. The best line for 5 tricks is not the line for making the greatest number of tricks on average. A similar combination is AQTxxx opposite xxx. Which line you take is dependent on the number of tricks you need for the contract, the scoring, etc.
Maybe they should do in bridge what they do in some countries. They allow probabilities calculators in the exam room. (A good way of lowering standards). Then we would see what challenge remains in bridge
